And.. We're Back!

3.9.2008 By Blake

Hello again everyone, it's been a while since our team has had any major updates. All of us really wanted to talk about the new updates, but we also wanted to surprise everyone with a brand spankin' new site.

First off, we've got a new name! It's D-Pad Studio, and it's to represent that we are more than just a group of dudes working on Project: Rhapsody. We've got several projects now, and we want a site for all of us to post about these projects and their own personal endeavors.

So, the site has been redesigned and recoded completely from scratch, to hopefully bring a better experience to all of our readers and provide us with easier and better ways to bring updates to you.

Because we love you guys, and we hate spam, we've tried to make the comment system on the new site sniff out the robots. We want your posts to matter, and not to get overrun by spambots trying to peddle their viagratm.

And also because we love you, I'd like to unveil our secret project. Project: Owlboy is a 2D platform game featuring a free-flying adventure. It's really exciting for us, because we'll be releasing the game for both the PC and the Xbox 360. We're able to do this because the game is programmed using Microsoft's XNA framework. We've had a great time working on this game, and I hope it'll be fun for everyone to play. The game is a much smaller scale than Rhapsody is, so expect it sometime early 2009 for Xbox Live Community Games. Screenshots are available on the Project: Owlboy page and I'll try and record a gameplay video soon.

We won't be lacking in the update department this time. Our new team blogs will allow us to post more specific information regarding our work on our projects, and who knows.. maybe we'll let you inside our heads, if you ask nicely and buy us some beer.

Another new project that Adrian is working on is The Blue Sky. It's a dark themed graphic novel that'll be released in episodes. He's been working hard on the art and story, and I'm personally looking forward to seeing the first chapter come together.

Thanks for visiting our new site, and we'll be sure to keep you updated on all of our progress!

Woohoo, new page! I really like the new projects. Owl Boy has probably the most impressive artworks and designs I've seen in a long time (indie AND professional). The game mechanics sounds fun and I'm looking forward to a good amount of non-linearity and exploration. Or I hope so at least. Great job!

Nice nice and for some reason Owlboy is reminding me of something from Windwaker...what is it? *Dragon Roost music heard in the distance*

Nice website!
I've been following your rhapsody project for some time and now I'm also really interested in your other projects :) [everything looks so promising!!].

Have you though of adding any feed (RSS/Atom) subscription for your news/projects? It would be really nice to follow them. Just a thought.

Keep up the good work! :)
Birdieo
you must know you'll be getting a lot of stick for blatent zelda ripoffs
...
Rito
Yeah the owls look exactly the same as Rito! XD
Zelda
The only stick we've gotten is from you two. Looking at the Zelda characters, they do look obviously similar, though I think you'll see a lot of unique kinds of platforming game play and many other interesting characters in our game.

If you liked the bird people in Zelda, then maybe you'll like playing as a humanoid owl in this game.

@Birdieo - Yeah, setting up an rss feed would be great. I'll try and get subscriptions available for all of our pages.
Blake
Thanks a bunch!

I did... perhaps don't leave your owlboy files lying around? ;-D
Super Mario
Heh, yeah. Good find sir. I've gotta try and hide those better. ;)

Well, if you've given the game a try, maybe you could let me know some of your thoughts, either through here or by email, dpadstudio -at- dpadstudio.com

I think the game was quite good from what I've played, obviously the graphics were really well done. In terms of coding it was great, but the gameplay/fun itself was sort of average but still intriguing.. I just hope it keeps getting better! :)
Zelda
Thanks! I agree with you on the gameplay point. The part you probably played was more introduction than anything (hopefully it did have that 'intriguing' feel).

We're beginning to work on the first dungeon and we hope it pulls out all the stops. Thanks for playing!
