It's that time of the year again
9.3.2010 By Simon

Salutations everyone!
It's finally time for that GDC thing again. This time though, the whole team is showing up for the conference and we have a nomination in Visual Exellence to look forward to, so expect a lot of blog updates coming at you. I can't promise that we'll get to do this daily as last year proved to be a pretty big job keeping track of everything, and that was without a booth to keep track of, but you'll definitely get a rundown of our adventures in detail as the week progresses.
For now, here's your usual exploration photos around San Francisco.
----------

So it all starts with a plane. One which doesn't serve food during flight. The others are going to point out how I'm always pointing this out, but it matters! Well... kind of. Only in the sense that I was hungry.

My own trip took me by Dallas before I arrived in San Francisco.

But not before stopping for some food the plane deprived us from. (I know guys...). Pan mini pizza. Yup. I know where I am alright...

After a fairly brief second flight, we arrive at this place. I wasn't sure, but after some serious thinking and my brilliant deductive skills, I deemed this to be San Francisco. Everyone was impressed.

There's free hotel shuttles going between select hotels at the terminal. Ours is one of those hotels. Thus, we took one of said shuttles. ...Yes.

Appairantly, there's sunlight over here. Go figure.

Settled at our hotel, we decided to explore the city. The familiar highrises from last year greeted us as we arrived downtown. So did the option for cars to turn right at a red light. Sidewalks are an adventure on their own here.

It's an interesting place though. With their mucisians and their signposts.

A mall with a dome. A dome mall. THE MALL DOME! I should really copyright that for a TV show.

Just wandering around the place, as one does.

The San Francisco cablecar. Also known as "Man! Wouldn't it be awesome if someone cut the breaks on it, and it would go hurling down the hill?" "You mean like [insert movie]" "Oh yeah..."

The first day was coming to a close and the sun decided to take a nosedive into the horizon while the barhoppers came out.

All you need to get hyper. REALLY hyper.

And in the sugar rush, we climbed the tallest structure we could find.
DAY 2:

The next day, another excursion needed to be taken. It was simply too tempting not to. We followed the tram tracks to the top of the hill, then continued from there.

Some people said it was raining. I'll claim it was just very humid. The drops falling from the sky? Humidity!

Following this path, we came across Lombard street. Also known as "the most crooked street in the world". I disagree. I'm sure earthquakes can one-up this thing in an instant!

Don't want to trip down this thing though. Would be a painful game of pinball before rolling into traffic...

The humidity creates some nice reflections though. Still strange how people can create roads this straight. I mean, there should be a mountain around here somewhere you can't budge that completely ruins their plans for a straight road, meaning they have to go around it. Then the entire plan gets disrupted and you get a mishmash of roads. You know... like at home.

Nope. Couldn't resiste this one. A karmann ghia.

Nor this one. I have this odd facination with Vespas.

We marveled at the glorious street art of eyebrow tigers mauling ruby-belt chickens while bunnies display their indifference. Actually, on second thought, I have no idea what's going on here.

Another day came to a close. This was taken after spending an hour waiting for a bus that didn't arrive. Good times.
Come back soon for more pictures from GDC itself. Until then.
