Download Chapter One Volume One
WARNING NOT FOR KIDS!
This took forever to finish!
I've had so little time to just sit down and draw, work leaves me approximately 3 hours every night to shower, eat, check up on team news and then relax. I was getting lots of pencil work done on my other schedule but full time lives up to its name. Anyway, this was an interesting hobby project to finally get produced, I hope to churn out more and I hope people enjoy it and want to see more.
Like I mentioned in previous posts, I reccomend reading this with CDisplay EX or you can just unzip the folder and view them in whatever. I don't have an online way to read them yet, I felt that an archive for download just felt better. If there is a demad I'll something about it.
--------------
Okay so what I didn't do this time around is fill in my footnotes on the back pages with the map. I plan to use this space for information that I think is relevant yet doesn't have a place in the story's dialogue, doesn't match the pacing, or is just something I wanted to mention.
So here are a few notes about Gregor and Gottingen society. Gregor's apprenticeship is much like journeymen and artisans; the apprentice will follow the master around getting scraps of work until the master has passed on his or her clients. I guess the best way to describe it is that a master will gain respect and try to find upper class work over time and it is expected of the apprentice (if they aren't cut short in their training) to hold up whatever name the master has made, maybe even improve on it. I decided not to really expand on where Gregor and Rosely have worked and how old they were within the story, I didn't have the reason for it or pacing. Gregor is about 27 years old and Rosely is 57. I mentioned that Gregor has been kind of unexpectedly upgraded to some high end work, and at a very early start, normally he wouldn't be doing this work until his late 30s to mid 40s.
As for Nadia, her situation is pretty clear. The first born takes over the estate and the younger ones are to be taken care of or find their own way by mingling with upper society. She is stuck half way between these two modes of existence and the parental pressure is harsh to say the least on a girl with not too many friends and the isolation on the hill. I will get more into this for chapter 2.
The first volume focuses on Nadia, a coming of age story for the girl. I plan to add layers to the story with the start of each volume (approximately 10 chapters) so the reader gets more of the world, the people and a taste of the ambitious things I have in mind. The first part of this story is written up as 50 chapters, the second part is the real bulk of it ending around 170-200.
Anyway, here's to actually getting things in motion.
Oh yeah, and I will probably upload a small update to this chapter soon, I have a few things I want to do but but they are minor adjustments to emoting characters.
Comments
Look forward to future chapters. :)
It looks great for a first pro attempt. There are some flow issues on some of the pages and one or two pages in the middle that took a bit to decifer.
All and all, it moves really slow. I feel like the atmosphere of the comic plays into that though, so it's okay. If you're interested in getting together with some Vancouver comic artists and getting some feedback, drop me a line at www.epidigm.net
The second chapter is much quicker, I actually wanted to release chapters 1 and 2 together but I didn't have the time for it. All i really wanted to do was introduce a few characters with one.
I'll drop you a line later tonight
