IGF and a few other things
4.12.2009 By Simon
Hello everyone.
There's been a lot of silence on this site for a while now, and believe me, I've wanted to update with something for the longest time. It looks like more people have noticed the lack of updates than I realised, because I was just asked to comment on it about a week ago. The resulting e-mail exchange ended up on Destructoid, oddly almost a year since our last one on the site.
If you wish to read the post itself, you can do so here: Destructoid article
Before I say anything else, I want to mention that the game has been submitted for the Independent Game Festival Competition in San Francisco. We shipped off the demo last month, so hopefully that goes along well. However, when it comes to why it's taken so long to get this up on the site, that demands a bit more explanation...
If you've already clicked the link or previously read the article, you probably already know the situation. Blake, our main programmer, has been caught up in his new job and the process of getting someone else to help out here has been difficult and has required a lot of patience. While we did find people, progress slowed down to the point where we needed needed new help, sending us through the whole process of finding and training all over again.
I've been going at this for about half a year now, and I have to admit I'm pretty frustrated. Normally I wouldn't really write about this in public, but with the article more or less stating the same thing, I guess it doesn't matter right now. The truth is, the demo sent to IGF was nowhere near where we planned it to be and it pains me to see even our minimum goals not being reached. I can only hope things manage to pick up before march because this is not what I'd want people to play at GDC.
After submission though, progress has gone completely dead and I've been struggling trying to find a way out of this mess. I've finally found someone that might help out but who knows how long it will take before some actual work can be done. I'm kind of at a lack of what to say here. I can only hope things work out. Naturally, I really want to see Owlboy completed. Without a programmer present, this game isn't going anywhere though. Things aren't exactly going brilliantly on a personal level either right now, so I've had to put off updating the site for longer than I'd like.
I want to sincerely apologise to all of the people waiting for the game and everyone visiting the site looking for news. I feel like I'm letting you down, and I seriously hope we can get things running again so you'll finally have something worth the wait. Things are looking pretty grim in general, but like I've stated before, we're still going to keep trying. Where that will lead remains to be seen.
Thank you for sticking with us for so long. For now, enjoy the holidays everyone!
